Staying Safe Online

This forum is a place to enjoy yourself, swap information and socialise. But whilst the vast majority of our users are all here for genuine reasons, it’s important to remember that this is a public forum that absolutely anyone can see and post on.

Because of this, we strongly recommend not giving out personal details such as your surname, email or postal address, school name or phone number for your own safety and protection. Remember, when you are online, it is very easy for people to pretend to be someone they're not – some people online aren’t who they say they are.

It’s also important to remember that pictures you post on the web can be changed by other people and posted on different sites without your permission. Think very carefully before posting any pictures of yourself.

We really recommend that you take a look at the help and advice at www.thinkuknow.co.uk where you’ll find loads of tips for staying safe online, as well as info on how to report online abuse. The website www.thereforme.com gives help and advice to people aged 12-16, and kids of all ages should also take a look at www.youtube.com/ceop

If you’re worried about information you’ve given out, concerned about a PM you’ve received, or feel harassed or intimidated on the forum in any way, please let a Moderator or Admin know, who will treat your concerns in confidence.

If you have particular concerns that you would like to speak to a trained counsellor about, you may find the following numbers helpful:

Childline – 0800 11 11 www.childline.org.uk
Samaritans – 08457 909 090 (UK) 1850 600 090 (ROI) www.samaritans.org.
